Scar Stories

Scar Stories: A Visual Testimony of Sickle Cell Warriors

SCAR Stories Exhibition Image

Revealing Resilience, Courage, and Lived Experience

Scar Stories is more than an exhibit; it’s a truth-telling experience. As both an advocate and a photographer, I use my lens to center the voices of people living with sickle cell disease, capturing what is often overlooked and too often misunderstood. These portraits are intentional, intimate, and deeply human. They are paired with real narratives, unfiltered, lived, and owned by the individuals who carry them.

What you see in each image is only part of the story.

Because with sickle cell, the scars don’t stop at what the eye can hold. They live in the body, in the memory, in the moments no one witnesses. They tell stories of survival, of navigating systems that weren’t built with us in mind, of pushing through pain while still choosing to show up.

Who Are We

Every Scar - Visible or Not - is Evidence.

Evidence of Resilience.

Evidence of Courage.

Evidence of a life that continues, despite it all.
